Eheim Canister

Eheim CanisterThis is the 1st time I using canister, so I have quite a lot of doubts on it。
Currently having eheim 2080 canister, I notice that the suction of the canister is not very strong。
Even debris is float around it also wont suck in。 So dont even talk about those debris just right below it。
it only can suck in very fine debris, those like fish shit all cannot。
But when I check the flow rate indicator is always at high level, output water also quite a lot。

So is it normal?
Last time I use OHF, the suction motor is right below the tank so the suction is very strong, even dead MW also kena suck and stick there。
Maybe it gives me a very wrong impression that all filter suction must be strong too。。。
Just to add, my hose to my canister I do leave about 30cm allowance, it is easier for me to take out the canister out of my cabinet when clean up。 do that affect? But I still maintain within 180cm length to the tank (Follow the guide)。

After reducing head loss and everything, the effective flow rate decreases by alot。 Thats why I believe best filtration system is still using sump or ohf。
>You have to understand the two filtration methods that you are comparing。
Canister - Works on the principle of a syphon, thus the need to have tank above the canister itself, ";Pulling"; power is not as strong as compared to the powerhead that is submerged。
Whats your tanksize and your stock like ?
What i would say is that you are experiencing is dead spots ( no water currents or movements) thus debris is gathered at a specific area。 Use either an air stone of a wave maker。
Debris floating is good but your canister flowrate now plays a part。 Higher turnover rate means the faster the debris would be sucked in。 Get this concept, so long as the debris is in motion, floating around it will be picked up by the filter sooner or later。
Dont be disheartened Eheims are good stuff in my opinion
>Depends on what you what。。
Sump is best filtration imo。。 got wet and dry and submerged。
OHF you get those wet and dry media best。。。 like biosticks etc。。。
canister is like mini sump so BH, BH+ will work better in it。。
OHF will look messy but easier to clean
Canister will look neat on your tank but harder to clean。。
You choose yourself
My 2cents

My 2cents Agreed。 Filtration got many kinds。 WHat works for you would be the main concern。 I was a canister user but converted to OHF。 Ugly but maintainence is a breeze。。 remove wool put new one hahaha
>huh。。。that means weak suction is a natural of a canister ah?
ok, then still not that bad, hotel di batu pahat thought the canister got problem。
>Lower flowrate doesnt mean that its bad。。
>Originally Posted by lmw2502 huh。。。that means weak suction is a natural of a canister ah?
ok, then still not that bad, thought the canister got problem。 Yes bro。 The smaller the pipes the slower the suction is。 Although suction power is lower, once water enters the canister, water is presurised and pushed through the media this fully utilising the media to the max。
OHF on rhe other hand uses gravity as the main driving force no pressure at all。。 it wets the media thus the ";bakki shower"; effect ( this needs immense water flow) or more appropriately called wet dry。
All i can say is you did made a good buy but perhaps you didnt really understand how a canister filter works Eheim do have resale value。 If you have the opportunity later on in the hobby, have a go at all the the various kinds of filtration available。
Myself have tried almost all except sump。 It is banned in the house by my old man, he had a bad acc8dent that happened many years ago causing the whole house to flood 。。 he didnt believe that the sump systems now is much more well designed with multiple safety measures to prevent an overflow。
