bas batu pahatStackable OHF vs Canister

Hi guys, bas batu pahat am probing over a question these few days。
My canister has broke down and now theres only one normal dolphin running the water now。
So would like to ask opinions from bros and sis here。
Should i get a new canister first or a much more powerful power head plus stackable OHF first?
Which will be more effective?

Thanks!!

Both canister and stackable OHF are effective。 But, I personally prefer stackable OHF as it is easy to maintain。
Choice of filter media is equally important。
>IMHO can have both would be better。
>Both are good in their own ways and with good medias and proper cycling, you can have very clear tank water with tip-top water parameters。
For your case, are you intending to increase your bio-load in near future? If yes, IMO, stackable OHF will be better as it allows u to upsize your filtrations as bio-load increases。 Thats provided your current tank bracing can take it。
Cheers!
>Stackable OHF has much better expansion capacity but it doesnt really take care of the mechanical filtration part。 In my tank, to factor in mechanical filtration, i would stack, 3 circular sponge filters on top of one another and then attached it to a 2000 lph powerhead。 ^_^
Hope this help。

Hope this help。 Thanks guys! yup, am intending to increase my fishes inside。 Haha。 In that case shall get both then!! But what type of medias should i get for my OHF and canister? And in which should i put my coral chips in?
>From my understanding bio-house, CRs, and filter mat。 senior bros, please add in if i have missed out anything。
>I am using Mr。 Aqua Ceramic Rings and find them quite effective。 It has 3 sizes (S, M and L)。 It is neutral to pH。

If u getting both, you can connect your cannisters output to the OHF。 Save power。 Else if you prefer to have them run individually, then each can pack wif good medias to build-up BB on their own。
Personally for cannister, I will pack with more bio-medias like!-
-small size ceramic rings like mr aqua which is economical and easily available。
-eheim substract pro。
-Biohome if budget permits。
So the cannister will act more like bio-filtration。
The inlet of the canister can be raised higher since its more of bio-filtration
For OHF, the top 1st tier normally will be mechanical filtration for fish poo。。。etc。 I am using mika wool for that。
Follow by second tier downwards, u can fill with bio-medias like ceramic rings, BH。。。etc Personally I prefer BH。
So OHF will be both Mechanical and Bio filtration。
Just sharing an idea。 U might run your own setup to suit your tank needs
Cheers
>OHF
pros
- expendable media storage space
- easy maintainence
- relatively cheap
cons
- heavy weight loading on tank bracings
- unsightly
